Bach - Passacaglia u0026 Fugue in C minor – Carlo Curley

This recording was published in 1994. Quite different from the standard interpretations. I'm surprised that this isn't more well known. The original CD is no longer available. But it has recently been reissued on a different label.
Carlo Curley made this recording on the organ in St. Eustache in Paris, France, not long after the instrument was completed. It seems to be quite difficult to record this instrument. The sound usually turns out quite muddled up. This is probably the clearest recording I have heard.
A curious footnote: I don’t know if Curley had anything to do with the design of the organ in St. Eustache, probably not. But we do know that Curley together with Jean Guillou, the perpetual titulaire of St. Eustache, presented a rather wild idea for an outdoor organ in La Grande Arche de la Défense, Paris. When comparing the two instruments, you do find some interesting similarities.
