For the complete cantata Schweigt stille, plaudert nicht, 'Kaffeekantate' BWV 211 go to:    • Bach  Schweigt stille, plaudert nich...  .

In Bach’s day, drinking coffee was not without controversy. The effects of the beverage were unknown as yet. The text by Bach’s librettist Picander tells of a girl who is addicted to coffee, of women who know their own mind, and sexual innuendo is never far away. In this aria from the 'Kaffeecantate' main character Liesgen sings of her love for the fashionable drink for which she even seems willing to give up parties and men.
