Australian Magpies have a number of different calls. They live in family groups, or as we like to call it, " tribes". They are very vocal and communicate with each other over long distances. Their calls are quite specific and they have different calls for danger or intruder alert, among other things. They take it upon themselves to be the look out in their territory and issue alarm calls to other birds and animals. The Kangaroos always perk up their ears when a magpie sounds the alert.
