We’ll start where we always do,. Under the hood and what we have here is the familiar 2.0T from the VW group, but in this application it makes a healthy 261 hp and 273 lbft. And that power goes through a 7 speed dual clutch transmission before making its way to all 4 wheels

And yanno what, 261 hp and 273 lbft is plenty for something like this.

This isn’t the S5 or RS5 so I’m not trying to be overly sporty and im not worried about the “limit handling” compromises of a convertible

What I am concerned with in something like this is enjoying the drop top experience…and looking cool…

And 261 hp is PLENTY to look cool

Plus if you have more power you’ll be encouraged to drive quicker and then people won’t be able to see you looking cool!

In truth, the turbocharged engine has plenty of punch and the transmission is smooth and gets quick and sharp in dynamic mode. Another thing we haven’t talked about is the kild hybrid system that helps smooth out power AND get 26 mpg combined

And smooth is the operative word here

What im looking for is exactly what Audi excels at, and thats the sweet spot between excitement, style, and luxury

060 in 5.3 is as fast as an M3 from the earlytomid 2000s there’s your excitemtnt

Style? I mean look at this thing, it’s the sexier sibling to the A4

And luxury? Well the ride is fantastic, the dynamics are intuitive, and even without a roof this thing is still quiet and refined

So the A5 convertible does it all. It’s got decent steering,a good solid chassis and well damped suspension, the brakes are good, the power is perfectly adequate, and whether the top is up or down you get a nice, composed, and refined ride…something befitting of the 4 rings

Every once in a while it’s nice to get into a car that’s just good

It’s not a million dollars with suspension made of gold and baby’s tear

It’s just a good car that gets you to B more relaxed and feeling better than you left A

So with that, let’s step outside and chat details

This is a great convertible and I like these over dedicated roadsters because they have back seats…sometimes you can even fit people in them
AND it also has a useable trunk
It’s practical, it’s useable, it has AWD, the point im making is this could be your only car even if you live here in the Yeti’s armpit that is WI
Plus it looks good
It’s classic Audi and you get tht from the front
Dominating grille
Simple, but modern running lights
Clean and elegant front fascia that’s inherently modern
Around the side, you have 19 inch wheels wrapped in….
And then you have a REALLY defined body line from your headlight all the way back
Weird front fender styling
But one thing to know with all AUDI convertibles is your A pillar will always be silver
If you see it a different color it’s be changed aftermarket
Subtle flaring on the rear hip to give a sporty stance
Long rear deck because that’s where the top goes
Simple rear design, the most exciting thing about the whole exterior is the taillight
Dual exhaust, Euro gets dual on one side…suck it

Then the interior, this is where I’m holding a high standard for this car
I don’t need it to be a mcLaren behind the wheel, i don’t need it to have a Lamborghini ext
What I want is an interior that’s simple, comfortable, and is easy to get on with
And it ticks that box perfectly
The interior design is vert clean and simple without forcing everything to go into the screen
All the stuff you use all the time, your HVAC, your auto start/stop, drive modes
All has physical buttons outside the head unit
The info tainemnt is very much a tacked on screen, but the rest of the design is so minimal that it looks like that was the point from the jump
Wireless car play
Your steering wheel is a good size and it’s a clean design as well
Autopilot to the right and media to the left
Of course you can either have a semi digital or full digital cluster with google earth
Audi was the first to do the whole digital cockpit thing and they’re still one of the best
Ten behind your volume knob you have your toperation controls
DO NOT HAVE ANYONE SITTING IN THE BACK WHILE YOU PUT THE TOP DOWN
Top is pretty quick
Rear seats are technically useable, but I wouldn’t recommend it
Then finally the trunk is what you would think is a normal size if the top compartment didnt hang down into it
