Asukayama Park was designated as Japan's first park in 1873 (Meiji 6) by a decree from the Daijōkan (Great Council of State). Established under the jurisdiction of Tokyo Prefecture at the time, it is known for being planted with cherry blossoms by the 8th shogun, Tokugawa Yoshimune, and is cherished as a famous cherry blossom viewing spot.
