Articulated Finger Extensions with Popsicle Sticks Tutorial

Hi there! Since Halloween was coming up, I thought that I would create a tutorial for articulated finger extensions. The mechanical workings are Gary Fay's idea, but I thought that I would design one with a shorter length so that they would be a little more convenient to carry around.

Here are some notes from what I learned while making these:

The popsicle sticks aren't always large enough, so you may need to glue some together as I did in the video. If you're having trouble gluing them, try making joints so that they fit together like puzzle pieces, and then apply glue.

Do you not have wire? At first, I tried making these with wooden skewers, but the popsicle sticks kept on splintering when I tried to make the holes bigger, so I switched to wire since it was thinner. I think that you can still make these with wooden skewers, but for people who handdrill these (like me), it can get a little tedious.

I originally tried making these from cardboard, and they do work indeed! Aside from the fact that they don't last as long, the main problem I had was that the edges kept on tearing before of the holes. Therefore, be careful not to let the cardboard rip when the holes are being made closer to the edge.

Keep in mind that different fingers may require different measurements! Most of the pieces will stay the same, but there is one (labelled in the video) that will vary for each finger. I would recommend doing some testing before you put everything together.

Speaking of which, please make the pieces as you go along. You'll probably have to test each part to make sure its working before moving on. It will save you a lot of time and effort.

Does it work when you're testing it but not when you're wearing it? Try to narrow down the problem(s). It may be that the edge finger slot is too loose, or that the pieces are too tight. Try different things to see what works and what doesn't.

Anyway, thanks a lot for watching! I'm just an amateur hobbyist, so if anyone has ideas on how to improve the design, please share it in the comments!
