Art Show Set Up Part 1

Thinking Of doing an art show or a craft show to sell your acrylic paintings or jewelry? Looking for an inexpensive way to create Displays for your show?

Here is our first set up. We already owned an 8 ft.² popup canopy. I have read that some venues request you only have a white one so if you have to buy one I would look for a white one.

I bought four pieces of finished pegboard that were sizes 2’ x 4’. My husband drilled extra large holes at the top to fit the S clips and we hung two of these on 2 sides of the canopy. On the back of the canopy we hung up a huge piece of pegboard, it’s 4 feet wide by 8 feet long. I recommend for every side that you hang pegboard that you use at least three of the big black S hooks. They are S hook/carabiner hooks that we bought at the hardware store for about five dollars each. I’ve had a couple of other artist recommend that we paint the pegboard black or gray but time keeps us from doing that. In a future video I will show you an alternative to the pegboard. My first art show my husband will be there to assist with set up but my second art so I will be by myself and I do not think I can physically lift the pegboard so I’m looking at an alternative. Also there is no way that large piece of pegboard is going to fit in my car.

I have two 6 foot plastic folding tables on either side of the canopy. I had originally wanted to put a third 6 foot table at the back but that would make room inside the canopy much too small for more than one or two buyers at a time. I am considering using a low bench that I can partially have outside of the pegboard to provide another ledge if I need it.

I have A smaller folding table at the front that I will put some teaser items on, such as, Christmas ornaments or maybe a couple of pendants. I will be sitting near that table and that’s where I’ll do any transactions with money.

I bought cloth tablecloths, I specifically chose black so that the colors of the vases in the paintings would provide interest to the eye.

I have a couple of signs that I made one in particular that I made with stick on letters on an older canvas. That will be set up close to the entrance of my canopy.. Any light weight signs made on posterboard can be easily staple pinned to the cloth tablecloth.

I plan to tape business cards on the back of every painting which I will also sign on the back. I’ll have plenty of business cards available for people, and of course I will have hand sanitizer and I thought about providing a basket of mints!

An Artist who is a friend recommended to use what you have. So if you don’t have a canopy and you have a table that’s fine. You use what you have and do what you can. I plan to take the paintings that I posted in this video but I probably will take extra paintings in a plastic tote that can be stored under one of the tables so if people want to look further they’re more than welcome to.
