In 1966 FCPO Raymond Hoare was at the first ever Singapore Grand Prix with his cine camera on a run ashore in Singers while serving on HMS Ark Royal. R09.

Some 54 years later the cine was sent to me to scan, Raymond had passed away by the time I got his cine film.

This Grand Prix cine has been online for a few years, mostly gone un noticed, a few likes here and there.

This week I had an email from a company that is collating everything they can on the SP Grand Prix for an exhibition and they saw Ramonds cine on this channel.

They sent me an email to ask if it was possible to have a copy to put in the Grand Prix historical collection.

I think Ramond would be chuffed to know this was happening.

His cine will go to Singapore and be seen forever in a Grand Prix exhibition.

Without hesitation I have sent a copy of this edit done today [without the music] so it can be included in the collection.

This scan is a jpg frame by frame scan with the Hawkeye/Wolverine scanner.

JPG sequence rendered on an Apple Mac mini with an M2 processor.

Basic colour correction to remove the red tint.

Exported as an H265 .mov file with DaVinci Resolve 18.

Cheers Raymond. Your Singapore cine will be forever seen in a Singapore Grand Prix Exhibition.

Here is a copy of the email I recieved this week:

Dear Sir

Greetings from Singapore! I watch with interest the video HMS Ark Royal. East of Suez. 1965/6 by Raymond George Hoare posted by you on Youtube, hence this email to you.

I’m Veronica from ******* *******

Our company is in the process of curating a motorsports gallery here in Singapore with an opening exhibition focusing on Singapore Grand Prix.

The aim of this gallery is to further grow interest in motorsports among the community here, provide a space for local and foreign motorsports fans to meet, and to showcase Singapore achievements in hosting the Singapore Grand Prix.

The gallery will be free admission to the public.

The said opening exhibition will cover the very first Singapore Grand Prix back in 1961 to 1973 racing along Upper Thomson Road circuit to the inauguration of the current Singapore Grand Prix in 2008 and the 14 night races.

While conducting content research and curation, we found the footage of 1966 Singapore Grand Prix captured in the HMS Ark Royal. East of Suez. 1965/6 which is just a handful footages we came across .

We would very much like to incorporate this 1966 Singapore Grand Prix footage, in parts or whole, into our exhibition contents to showcase those astonishing moments of the races, drivers and the spectators and we, therefore, like to obtain a consent from the owner of the video to use the above footage.

We understood from the Youtube description that you know the owner or the people close to the owner. We would really appreciate it that if you could in any way help us to obtain the consent or link us up with the owner/source.

We’ll have respectable accreditation to the owner/source if consent to use is granted to us.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you for your time in advance and look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards
