Dr. Lera talks about apoquel, aka oclacitinib, with an adorable French Bulldog named Hanna.
Apoquel is an oral medication used to manage itching associated with allergic dermatitis (including atopy) in dogs at least 12 months of age. Oclacitinib works by inhibiting enzymes involved in itch, inflammation, and allergic reactions (janus kinase enzymes 1 & 3 [JAK1 & JAK3]). In many patients, this medication is as effective as corticosteroids (for example prednisone) with fewer side effects. Relief is often seen within 1224 hours of giving the first tablet.
