The role of nuclear power in a net zero world is an open and lively topic of debate. It has unique advantages: it can reliably supply a large fraction of a nation’s energy needs and can underpin renewable sources whose output will vary with the weather. It also has unique disadvantages: it creates long lived waste and accidents can cause serious and lasting harm.
People whose job is nuclear safety work to drive the risk of harm down to an absolute minimum. This webinar will give a short introduction to how this is done. It will cover the legislative background, nuclear site licensing, regulation, the role of safety cases and the concept of ALARP.
