Hello and welcome to Cat’s Love, and today were going back to Cat Breed Profiles because today were taking a look at the American Bobtail!

WHAT GOOGLE SAYS:

So before you Google what an American Bobtail is, I’ll do just that!

Google says that the American bobtails are known for their short bobbed tails, rugged appearance, and playful personalities. They have been referred to as the "golden retriever" of cat breeds thanks to their affectionate and friendly personalities. These cats love to be around humans and have a sweet, gentle nature that makes them wonderful companions.

Google explained the cat breed as simple as possible, I’ll go a little deeper though,

I can also answer some questions that were asked on Google,

“Are they friendly?” They are confident cats and they are very friendly and playful!

“Are they actually inbred with Bobcats?”
That is an urban legend, the urban legend says that the breed is a cross between a tabby cat and a wild bobcat!

And “how much do they cost?” Since they aren't a common cat breed they usually sell for 6001200 dollars, finding an american bobtail breeder might be tricky because of theyre uncommonness,

The American Bobtail is recognized by TICA

Did you know? The American Bobtail has a naturally stubby tail, no tail is exactly the same but the average length for the tail can be 14 inches long!

The American Bobtail originated in the late 1960s, if we dont look at the urban legend than scientists think that the american bobtail may be a cross between a Manx and a normal common tabby cat.

The stubbed tail was a genetic mutation during birth which is what started the new breed.

The American Bobtail originated in, well… United States of America, hence the name.

They are also known to be one of the cutest cats but in my opinion all cats are cute.


TAKING CARE OF AN AMERICAN BOBTAIL.

To take care of an american bobtail your going to need to brush there fur weekly if they are the longhaired version of the american bobtail. But they will shed more than usual due to seasons changing, so for instance the longhair will shed more in the summer and less in the winter. Food wise you might need to get some food with more protein than usual, not saying that you need to feed your american bobtail protein shakes, but they need protein. They are really intelligent so maybe get your american bobtail a “food puzzle” toy where they have to piece together how to get there favorite food or treat to them. They are also really good with dogs, children, and anyone whos playful with cats.


TYPES OF AMERICAN BOBTAIL

Now for American Bobtail, there is a short haired and longhaired version of the American Bobtail, but most American Bobtails have this group of colors.

Black
Brown
Chocolate
Cinnamon
Blue
Lilac
Fawn
Red
And cream. They can be found with or without white on them, and yes tabby american bobtails are common in the breed.

So heres some facts about the American Bobtail breed!

The size and weight of an american bobtail can be 716 pounds for male and female and they can get as tall as 910 inches which is pretty tall for a cat.

Just wait till we get to the savannah episode, and they can live 1315 years! There sociable, bold, and affectionate, they have a normal shedding amount but it depends on what season, and they are pretty frequent when it comes to being vocal, and they are good lap cats.
