The Japanese Akita is thousands years old dog breed from Japan where it lived in isolation for generations. It got into USA in 20th century, where it evolved into new separate dog breed. The main differences are in the size, head type and coloration, but you can also find subtle differences in temperament or health of the American Akita and Japanese Akita.
