During a recent voyage along South America's eastern coast, Justin Hofman was surprised to get closeup footage of an unfazed mother whale and her newborn calf. Hofman is the undersea specialist on the National Geographic Explorer, whose expedition team was granted special permission to dive with southern right whales in the nature reserve of Península Valdés, Argentina, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
