History Adventures takes you to the Battle of the Tenaru, sometimes called the Battle of Alligator Creek. The battle took place on 21 August 1942, on the island of Guadalcanal. It was the first major Japanese land offensive during the Guadalcanal campaign to recapture Henderson Field. At the end of the battle over 800 Japanese soldiers lay dead or dying near the mouth of the river. The US Marines knew that they could fight and defeat the Japanese.
