Aesop Rock Analysis | Lyrical Masterclass of Hiphop

My Little Thought Tree

Underground veteran of hiphop Aesop Rock crafts lyrics that are both wonderfully poetic and bizarrely chaotic; resulting in a comically jarring mix of vivid imagery and cartoonish mashups. I thought I'd try and breakdown and explain the lyrics behind his song Cycles To Gehenna from the album Skeleton because I love that song, basically. Hopefully what I've managed here is a video essay that served both as an indepth analysis of the song, and of Aesop Rock's music in general.

My Little Thought Tree is my channel for drawing out the deeper meaning and emotion in film, TV, and the world at large through relaxed, analytical video essays. I am a professional counsellor and often draw on my psychology and therapy background to better understand characters, themes, and emotion in fiction. I upload every Saturday and occasionally on Tuesdays, if I'm feeling productive.
