This male intruder came to the nest several times today both when Gabby was incubating the egg and when the egg was left alone. This intruder appears to be the same eagle that Gabby mated with in November he has the dot on the top of his head and the necrotic toe. AEF does not believe this eagle is A1 because A1 had a black mark on left beak by the cere and this eagle does not. Gabby would leave the nest most likely in an attempt to lure him off the nest but he was persistent and kept coming back.
The intruder did not harm the egg or bury it he did put some grass on it when he was digging around it. The intruder rolled the egg several times seemed to know what he was doing. There were additional eagle flybys in the distance so multiple eagles in the area. Beau arrives back to the nest after the intruder had left and he stayed for a few minutes and then took off. The intruder did not return after Beau was here. This intruder action will keep the testosterone flowing in Beau and will continue to inhibit any prolactin production which is not a good thing. But this is a wild eagle nest and we are just observers watching in real time. We hope for the best for Gabby, Beau and the egg. Thank you for watching!
