Did you know . . . ?

Hamsters are nocturnal animals, which means they are most active during the night and sleep during the day.

Hamsters have large, expandable cheek pouches that they use to store food. These pouches allow them to gather and carry food back to their burrows efficiently.

Like all rodents, hamsters have teeth that continually grow throughout their lives. They need to gnaw on hard objects to wear down their teeth and prevent them from becoming too long.

In the wild, most species of hamsters are solitary creatures and prefer to live alone in their burrows. They may become aggressive if housed with other hamsters, especially if they are not familiar with each other.

Hamsters have a short gestation period, typically around 1618 days, and can give birth to large litters of babies, often ranging from 6 to 12 pups.

Despite their small size, hamsters are skilled climbers and can easily scale wire cage walls or other obstacles. Providing them with plenty of climbing opportunities can help keep them mentally stimulated.

Hamsters are sensitive to extreme temperatures and should be kept in a comfortable environment with temperatures between 65°F and 75°F (18°C to 24°C). They can suffer from heatstroke if exposed to high temperatures for prolonged periods.

Hamsters communicate with using a variety of vocalizations, body language, and scent marking. They may squeak, chirp, or even hiss to express their emotions or signal danger.

Hamsters have a strong nesting instinct and will gather bedding material, such as paper or hay, to build cozy nests in their cages. Providing them with nesting material is essential for their comfort and wellbeing.

⏳ Unfortunately, hamsters have relatively short lifespans compared to other pets, typically living around 2 to 3 years on average. However, with proper care and attention, they can lead happy and healthy lives.

*Please note that hamsters are delicate and don't make good starter pets for children. There is a clip in this compilation of a bunny eating next to a hamster and while this looks cute, please don't do this in real life. They could easily be injured.
