If you're visiting Athens for the first time, the top mustvisit attraction is without a doubt the Acropolis, where the famous temples the Parthenon, Erechtheion/Erechtheum and Athena Nike sit. There are other archaeological ruins at the Acropolis to check out too such as the Theatre of Dionysus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus and of course the Propylaea which you pass through to get to the Parthenon if you're going by the main entrance.

It's definitely worthwhile booking your tickets online and going early plus if you plan on visiting other historical sites around Athens then the combo ticket can save you a bit with entrance tickets.

We didn't realise when we visited the Acropolis in Athens but there's a free mobile app you can download for an augmented and virtual reality experience. It's called Cosmote Chronos which you can use to enrich your experience at the Acropolis (like seeing the statue of Athena that use to be inside the Parthenon, or what the Parthenon use to look like with colour etc).
