A rare visiting Express Steam Locomotive - 45960 'Leander' at the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway

The visiting locomotive was 45960 'Leander' an LMS 6P Jubilee class express passenger locomotive, that went on to serve with BR as a 5XP type locomotive. The Jubilee class is one of my favourite classes of steam locomotive due to their understated power, performance and the evocative names that the class carried. The locomotive worked alongside the recently returnedtotraffic resident Ivatt 2MT on my visit. It's rare to see a locomotive of this size and power on this railway due to the lines' limited length and it not being connected to the national rail network.

Footage includes some shunts at each end of the line as well as a full line run from Haverthwaite to Lakeside, Lake Windermere, filmed from just behind the stunning locomotive.

The Lakeside and Haverthwaite railway runs for 3.2 miles via Newby Bridge at the South end of the popular Lake District Lake Lake Windermere. It connects with steamers at Lakeside station that can take you to Bowness, Ambleside or just for a cruise on the lake.

I had a fantastic trip; full details and more photos of my excellent visit to the railway will be in my trip report which will appear here in due course:
