A RARE KIRTLAND'S WARBLER IN MIAMI FLORIDA USA!

THE BIRD PROFESSOR!

The Kirtland's Warbler is one of the rarest songbirds found in the U.S. These birds nest primarily in Michigan and Wisconsin and spend the winters in the Bahamas. It declined in numbers to a very low point in the 1970s to around 1,000 birds or less. Prescribed burns in its nesting area of Jack Pine forest found in Michigan and Wisconsin, have increased nesting areas for this rare species. Brownheaded Cowbirds lay eggs in other birds' nests, those species raise their young! This happened a lot in the Kirtland's Warbler nesting area. Brownheaded Cowbirds were trapped during the nesting season to help lower the number of cowbirds in those areas. This along with prescribed burns has made a huge difference. Now the number of Kirtland's Warbler has increased to over 4,000 birds! What a wonderful success story of a bird that almost went extinct! In this video, you will see a very, very rare visitor to the state of Florida in the U.S. This bird was found in North Miami in Highland Oaks County Park.
