It was a rainy day one that you figured you’d try and make the best of by going to one of your favorite spots: the library. As you stroll through the doors and are greeted by the soft sounds of the staff going about their business, you allow your gaze to sweep over the tables scattered about, looking for somewhere to sit. Though when a familiarly messy looking head of hair gains your attention, a smile spreads across your lips. Nearing his side, your footsteps echoing in the quiet space, you gently tap him on the shoulder, pulling him from his studies. “What are you doing here?” You chuckle fondly as your friend and fellow classmate grins in reply, his own laugh escaping him. “Uhm… homework,” Peter Parker states plainly, gesturing to the numerous scattered pieces of paper, books, and pens littered across the table he sits at. “Mind if I join?” With a shake of his head, you take a seat in the chair across from him, pulling your laptop from your bag and beginning to get to work. Rain patters against the windows, the odd murmur of other library goers reaching your ears. A huff of defeat also sounds from the person across from you and as you raise your gaze to meet his, a pang of concern ripples through you upon taking note of his features. A dark bruise sits beneath Peter’s right eye, the hood over his head moved to the side enough for you to actually set sights on it. “What on Earth happened to your face, Pete?” You muse softly, compassion and curiosity in your tone. At this, your classmate frowns for a moment, though he quickly realizes your meaning, tugging his hood back into place. “Oh, I’m alright. I just fell skating.” You simply nod slowly in reply, the casual tone in his voice not sitting right with you. Though you dismiss that thought, launching the internet browser on your laptop, fully set on getting down to business. But, before you can continue on to your first stop the word processing site that holds your paper, a particular news headline on your computer screen gains your attention. “What on Earth?” You mumble, confusion pricking your thoughts as you open the article, gaze once more reading the headline. “The New Masked Menace in Town: SpiderMan!?” Your bewildered tone must be enough to gain Peter’s attention, his hasty scribbling and reading coming to a momentary halt, gaze meeting yours. “He’s assault… he’s assaulting people? I’m not sure, I mean, I saw that video, with him and the car thief… and I think most people would say that he was providing a public service.” You nod in agreement, turning your laptop to show Peter the article. “I agree. Whoever wrote this article needs to get their eyes checked.” Once more, the pair of you share a laugh before delving into your own worlds once more. And as time continues on, the minutes turning into hours, you find yourself caught up in the music Peter had cued up previously, a headphone of his being stuck in your one ear, the other in his. Studying is always better with a friend and some quality choices in music, too. Grinning to yourself, you nod inwardly. Good call on the library, especially on a rainy day like today.
