"A Poet Long Ago," directed by Bob Giraldi, stars Steve Schirripa (SONNY) and Boris McGiver (MALLOY). In the present day, SONNY, a sanitation worker, and MALLOY, a newspaper writer, meet by chance and reminisce about their grammar school days together back in 1970s Brooklyn. Immediately an old wound is opened; flashbacks show how the least likely of the pair had an astonishing gift for poetry beaten out of him by a narrowminded father hellbent on protecting him.
"A Poet Long Ago" is written by Pete Hamill, based on true events.
