No topic is more controversial today, as it was back then, than that of Southern slavery. Although not the cause or reason why men on either side were fighting the War Between the Statesit was a national issue that needed to be resolved.

Nehemiah Adams was an antislavery Massachusetts pastor who sought to remedy the national dilemma, but instead of taking a radical approach like some of the abolitionists did in the North, he decided to travel south and document his findings to bring transparency and more understanding to the rising tensions. What he discovered was quite revealing.
