In the past decades, tigers have faced the brink of extinction, with their habitats dwindling alarmingly. But, thanks to a groundbreaking collaboration between conservationists, NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), and Google Earth Engine, hope is on the horizon.
Introducing the Tiger Conservation Landscapes (TCL) 3.0 a realtime monitoring system that's revolutionizing the way we protect tiger habitats. This dynamic map not only pinpoints where immediate action is needed but also showcases the positive ripple effects of habitat conservation on our entire ecosystem.
Gone are the days of static mapping. TCL 3.0's cuttingedge technology, including GIS, offers a living, breathing overview of tiger territories, empowering conservationists and countries to make swift, informed decisions that benefit tigers and countless other species.
Despite a concerning 11% decrease in tiger habitats between 2001 and 2020, TCL 3.0 has identified over 226 potential restoration landscapes. These are glimmers of hope, where, with adequate resources and connectivity, tiger populations could rise by 50%.
This initiative is more than a map; it's a beacon of hope, symbolizing the power of technology, collaboration, and the belief that together, we can secure a future for tigers and the rich biodiversity of our planet.
