A Glimpse Through the Gate into the King’s Garden - with ideas that translate into many gardens

Follow
Bunny Guinness

Bunny coauthored the book, ‘Highgrove a Garden Celebrated’ with the then Prince Charles, some ten years ago, talks about aspects of these great gardens that make them special.

The front drive with its soft, green stripe snaking up the centre, the sketches of the phases of development of an avenue, laying the paving with wide joints to encourage the ‘softer’ look, and the strategic planning of tree planting are included as is the encouragement of bird song as a successful foil to traffic noise.

His Majesty the King, since acquiring Highgrove some 43 years ago, has developed Highgrove partly as a show case to promote many environmental causes close to his heart. The King has planted a large proportion of the trees and plants himself, and every year he likes to move the garden on creating something new for his visitors to enjoy.
