The University of Wisconsin–Madison is one of 100 locations worldwide that are a part of the AHEAD study and one of approximately 63 sites across North America that are a part of the A4 study. Both are clinical studies of the investigational treatment lecanemab in people who may be at risk for memory problems. Dr. Carlsson serves as the principal investigator for the AHEAD and A4 studies at UW–Madison, and Drs. Chin and Johnson serve on the study teams. The AHEAD study is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), in partnership with the pharmaceutical company Eisai, and is being conducted by the NIHfunded Alzheimer’s Clinical Trial Consortium (ACTC). The A4 study is funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), NIH, Eli Lilly and Company, and several philanthropic organizations.
