The first week of March 2023 we started out on our first arctic winter trip towards the mountains for this season. Matti, 4 guests, and 28 of our huskies started at our kennel in Jokkmokk and aimed for Saltoluokta Mountain Lodge 220 km northwest of Jokkmokk. We traveled with dog sleds from the forest land, along solitary winter trails, over frozen lakes up to the bare mountains. Until this time the winter had offered us good and strong ice but hadn’t got so much snow so during this dog sledding trip, we got to face challenges such as glare ice, no snow, hard wind, and had to take difficult decisions knowing how dependent we are on the weather. We realized that our tours in the wild nature are no tourist trips, this is no Disney World experience. We show you how the reality of life out in the bush is.
