6 Supplements That CAUSE Hair Loss (Avoid These)

Follow
Dr. Westin Childs

Hair loss is one of the most discouraging symptoms that you can suffer from which is why so many people turn to supplements to try and solve the problem.

And while supplements can absolutely help reduce hair loss and increase hair growth, they also have the potential to make your hair loss WORSE if the wrong ones are used or if they are used incorrectly.

If hair loss is something that you are trying to solve then make sure to avoid THESE supplements as they may make hair loss worse (depending on how they are used):

1. Creatine (only avoid if you already have androgenetic alopecia).
2. Excessive use of selenium. Aim for around 100 mcg per day and avoid higher doses.
3. Excess biotin. Stick to doses found in multivitamins.
4. Excess vitamin A. Stay away from doses higher than 10,000 IUs/day. Account for total vitamin A intake from all sources!
5. Excess vitamin E. Stick to doses of less than 1,000 mg/day.
6. Excess vitamin D. Avoid mega dosing vitamin D and keep your dose less than 10,000 IU per day.

Many of these supplements can help your hair grow, just be sure you aren't using an excessive dose as that is where you can get into problem.

And if hair loss is a problem for you, make sure you check your thyroid gland! Here's a related video:    • All 10 Thyroid Lab Tests (Every Thyro...
