Me and 2 friends drove out to Iowa to hunt for wild pheasants….being in PA we only have what is released from the game commission and preserves to hunt so we like the challenge of hunting wild birds!

We were supposed to meet up with a local for him to show us around and he also had access to a private 1000 acre farm, but when we got there, he got sick and was in the hospital for 3 days so we were left to ourselves.

We hunted different IHAP public land sections and had ok success.

1st day was opening day of the season and we got 11! We had 4 guys that day as my buddy flew his 19 year old son out to hunt with us for 3 days.

2nd day we only got one rooster...we did put up a covey of quail which was neat!

3rd day we didn’t get anything.

4th day we gave the dogs a day off and my one buddy had his wife and two kids with him, so he took the day off to rest and spent time with them, so me and my other friend just walked a 70 acre place in a zigzag pattern back and forth and put up 7 roosters and 5 hens and we each were able to get a rooster!! Pretty rewarding to get wild pheasants on public land with no dogs!!

5th day we didn’t even see a rooster to shoot at even though we went to three different places.

6th day was pretty amazing!! We put up around 35 birds total. I limited out and we got two other ones. We should have had more but we missed a few. ‍♂

This week I was shooting my 20g Browning White lighting feather and my 12g Browning 725 Citori Feather….both with 3 inch shells….first shot was #6 out of a mod choke and second shot was #5 out of a full choke.
