I have a saying: "Most families of kids with ADHD are unintentionally misled as soon as their child receives a diagnosis."
Why are most families misled?
Because health care and mental health professionals are unfamiliar with the research data on ADHD or the American Academy of Pediatrics treatment recommendations, thus families are referred to ineffective treatments.
Because neither parents (or their kids) are given a solid explanation of ADHD or how to help their child build skills.
Because the mental health field doesn't seem to understand the role of language in building foundational executive function skills.
I created this video to help parents understand what they were most likely never told, but should have been when their son/daughter received an ADHD diagnosis.
