To be clear: Best known for its folded ears and completely adorable appearance, the Scottish Fold is a popular cat breed that is smart, intelligent, and affectionate. With a natural dominant gene mutation affecting their cartilage and causing their ears to fold, the Scottish Fold typically has an owllike appearance. With their tendency to get into different funny positions and their affectionate nature, the Scottish Fold is a breed that brings a lot of joy to its owners. Despite that, the Scottish Fold is definitely not a breed for everyone, and in this video, we give you 5 reasons why you shouldn’t get the Scottish Fold.

Snippet: Although the Scottish Fold is an incredibly popular pet in the USA, due to its caring and gentle nature and distinctive look, these cats actually have flattened ears that fold forward and downward, sitting like a cap and providing the charming look of an owl. This ear fold is the outcome of a natural genetic mutation first observed in a farm kitten in Scotland in 1961. The tightly folded ears do not seem any more susceptible to infections than those of cats with upright ears. Nevertheless, this unique ear shape is brought on by an underlying defect in the formation of cartilage, which would generally maintain the ears in a typical shape. This inherited cartilage flaw causes other defects throughout the body and is a dominant quality, affecting all kitties in the litter. Watch the video to find out more.
