5 things I love about lab diamonds
Hi everyone, and welcome back to my channel. today I want to talk about something that's near and dear to my heart, and that's labgrown diamonds. If you're not familiar with them, labgrown diamonds are diamonds that are created in a laboratory setting, using advanced technology that replicates the natural process of diamond formation. If you have never watched my videos, my name is Osiris, I am a GIA trained Diamond expert that was in the trade for many years and now I help people learn about diamonds. In this video I will explain my top 5 reasons to consider going lab and for fun, my next video will be 5 things I hate about them. So, without further ado, let's get started! Oh and if you wait till the end I will have a treat for you.
1. Im going to start off with Qualities Labgrown diamonds have the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds, which means that they're just as hard, just as brilliant, and just as beautiful. If you test a lab diamond it will read as a natural diamond. So don’t get a lab diamond confused with a CZ or costume jewelry. In fact, the quality of labgrown diamonds is so high that even experts can't tell the difference between them and natural diamonds. There really is only one way to tell the difference, If the quality is extremely low, you will have an Inclusions, a flaw in the diamond, that are long and hairlike. This is not typically found on natural diamonds. See example A. Notice those long inclusions there, you will not see that in natural diamonds. You can easily avoid that issue by carefully eyeing the diamond or choosing a higher clarity grade. Other than that, there is no visual difference between the two.
2. Labgrown diamonds are better for the environment, With a quick search you will find diamonds cause significant damage to the environment but that's not the case with labgrown diamonds. They are created using renewable energy sources, and they don't contribute to the destruction of ecosystems. Here are some facts.
Openpit mining and underground mining can cause deforestation, soil erosion, water pollution, and other forms of environmental degradation. In addition, the largescale use of heavy machinery and chemicals in diamond mining can further harm the environment.
Unsustainable Mining Practices: Diamond mining can be an unsustainable industry, as the rate of diamond extraction often exceeds the rate of diamond formation. This can lead to the depletion of diamond deposits and cause longterm environmental damage.
Lack of Regulation: The diamond industry is often characterized by a lack of regulation and accountability, making it difficult to ensure that diamonds are mined and traded in a responsible and sustainable manner.
So moral of the story lab diamonds are green.
#3. Affordable: Third on my list is affordability. Because labgrown diamonds are produced in a laboratory setting, the cost of producing them is significantly lower than the cost of mining natural diamonds. This means that labgrown diamonds are often more affordable than natural diamonds, which makes them a great choice for anyone who wants to buy a diamond but doesn't want to break the bank. Let me show you an example of that. Here is a stunning 2 carat natural diamond. It’s a GIAcertified G Vs2 and its priced at 22,820 dollars. Now lets find a lab diamond with the same qualities. Here iS a stunner for the price tag of 3,570. That is a whopping difference of 19,250 dollars. .
I figured he would say that, money is of no object when you are rich, but when you are an average American, these savings are HUGE. Now my channel is about learning how to buy diamonds correctly and making sure you don’t overspend or buy a diamond with a poor cut. To help I have prepared guides on my site to ensure you don’t overpay and most importantly, you get the best cut possible. I even made these adorable tabs that show you my preferred settings that filter diamond cuts showing only the best cuts. Consider using my website as a guide and means to support my channel.
