In today's video, we're going to talk about these 5 Fluffy Cat Breeds.

While most of our feline friends have some kind of fluff factor to them (except, you know, the hairless kinds), it’s a given that certain breeds of cats are fluffier than others. Grooming is an integral part of taking care of our feline companions. It’s important to teach our cats as kittens to get used to a comb or brush and to groom our cats frequently – depending on the length of their coat – to prevent hairballs.

Proper grooming sessions are also a great opportunity to inspect your cat’s coat and skin for any changes, scratches, abscesses, or disorders. Finding your cat’s favorite place for grooming – like your lap or favorite spot on the floor – will make things infinitely easier for the primping sessions, too.

We consulted with the Cat Fanciers’ Association to find out which breeds of cats are actually known to be the fluffiest. If you’re planning on bringing home one of these five breeds in the near future, you better go out and buy a FURminator.

Persian.

The dignified and docile Persian cat is known for being quiet and sweet. Although Persians tend to be relaxed and easygoing, they also command an air of royalty. They may not be quick to hiss or scratch, but that doesn’t mean they won’t become annoyed when bothered by loud children or pets. However, those who treat the Persian cat with the dignity and gentleness they deserve will be rewarded with an affectionate lap cat who enjoys a good petting or even a brush through their hair.

This is one cat who is unlikely to climb up your curtains, jump on your kitchen counters, or perch on top of your refrigerator. She is perfectly happy to rule her domain from the floor or more accessible pieces of furniture. When you are at work or are busy around the house, the Persian is content to adorn a chair, sofa, or bed until you are free to admire her and give her the attention she willingly receives but never demands.

The Persian breed is probably best known for its longflowing, luxurious coats and their sweet and gentle personalities. That’s probably why they’ve been the No. 1 breed in popularity for the Cat Fanciers’ Association for more than 30 years. Their long coats require indoor, protected environments, along with daily maintenance including a daily runthrough with a comb to eliminate tangles and hairballs. If you want a best friend who will return all your dedication and love in kind, the Persian may be the right feline for your family.

Maine Coon.

The Maine Coon is a native New Englander, hailing from Maine, where they were popular mousers, farm cats, and–most likely–ship’s cats, at least as far back as the early 19th century. The first thing you’ll probably notice is that Maine Coons are big–really big! In fact, the record for the world’s longest house cat belongs to a Maine Coon who grew to be over four feet long.

They’re affectionate without being needy, they’re adaptable, and they’ve kept their hunting instincts, just in case you need a good mouser. A Maine Coon also enjoys playing fetch and will retrieve small balls, toys, or waddedup pieces of paper. They can climb as well as any cat but usually prefer to stay on ground level. That's where their work is, after all. They're also very smart and will happily learn tricks or play with puzzle toys that challenge their brain.

Maine Coons usually enjoy a kittenish love of play well into adulthood. Males, especially, are prone to silly behavior. Females are more dignified, but they aren't above a good game of chase. Not especially vocal, they make any requests in a soft chirp or trill. This is a smart, independent cat who learns quickly and has an alert nature.

The Main Coon was first recognized as a specific breed in Maine, where it was named the official cat of the state. Today, the breed is known for its sturdy, rugged appearance, including its shaggy coat with three distinct lengths and its long, wellfurnished tail. If you can handle a whole lot of cats, this kitty might be a perfect addition to your family.
