Today at Ugly Truck, we're installing a 5.3 LM7 and a 4L60E trans in a 1978 Chevy C10 the hard way! We start by installing a new low profile oil pan, windage tray, and pickup tube from @JEGSHighPerformance. Next, we find the balance point of the engine and transmission, and get the straps and chains set up so that we can safely maneuver it into the engine bay. That shallow pan comes in handy as we're tipping the engine and transmission into place, but it's still pretty tricky. We don't recommend installing the engine and trans together like this, but this video gives you a good idea of what it takes, and how steep you have to tip the engine to get the transmission into the tunnel. This method adds some challenges, but in the end it saved us about an hour of work on this swap.
