How to change the front differential fluid in a 5th Gen Toyota 4Runner. This applies to all 20102021 5th Generation Toyota 4Runners with 4WD. This video will work as a guide for TRD Pro, Offroads, SR5 Premiums and SR5 4Runners. The DIY differential fluid process is the same for 2015, 2016, 2017 etc 4Runnres as mentioned above.

Ps It is always recommended to crack the fill plug before the drain plug on diffs. This way you know you can fill it if you drain it. It can also be helpful to spray penetrating oil on the diff plugs a few hours before doing the job.

We recommend flushing the system with a little extra oil before putting the drain bolt back in. Just a few pumps to get any sludge out of the case. The OEM specs call for 1.2 quarts for the front diff. We ended up using right under 2 quarts with our pump flush and our flush of the front differential. Be sure to have enough on hand to finish the job. I will link a case of 4 Redline 75w90 fluid below so you can stock the garage up. If you are changing the front and rear differential oil you may want to have a couple of cases on hand (68 total)
