Many golfer seek getting "shallow" in the downswing and the only way to achieve this move is to get on plane with a proper hand path to the top of the swing. By having hands too high at top of the swing, the golfer will tend to come over the top if they don't manufacture a shallowing move. By getting on plane in the backswing, the golfer can simply rotate in the downswing without manipulation.
