Ben is 33 and lives with his mom, Stacy. She claims he doesn’t pay rent or utilities, smokes pot, drinks, and spends most of his day outside by the pool on his cell phone.

“In a perfect world, I would be making my own way, not having to be at Mom’s house. Not having to ask for things, not feeling like I’m 10 when I’m 33 years old,” Ben says. “I feel stuck.”

Ben’s sister, Samantha, says Ben and their mom have an “extremely toxic” relationship. “She gives, and he takes. It’s purely onesided,” she says.

“My brother plays the victim,” adds their sister, Sarah. “He acts like he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to be doing as an adult.”
