3 Reasons Why Cats Think Of Their Owners As A Big Cat

1. They don’t distinguish humans from cats

According to research by British zoologist John Bradshaw,
cat’s don’t think of humans
as different from themselves.

In the case of dogs, how they behave toward humans
is different from how they behave toward other dogs;
This means that they recognize the difference
between themselves and human beings.

However, in the case of cats,
the behavior shown to humans vs. other cats is not much different,
which can mean that they perceive humans and cats as similar.

2. They haven’t been tamed by humans

The reason why cats do not distinguish between humans and cats
may be that, unlike dogs,
they were not tamed by humans.

Dogs have been with humans for a long time,
helping them hunt or collect livestock through "domestication,”
which is the process of being tamed by humans.

On the other hand, cats may not have been tamed
because they naturally wound up being around humans
as they would hunt and eat up
mice or small animals which ruin farming.

3. They do not have a sense of hierarchy

In general, cats don't live in groups
and rather, move around by themselves.

Therefore, unlike dogs,
cats have very little sense of fellowship or hierarchy.

However, even in the world of cats,
there are cats of higher status.

For cats, a high status simply means
that the cat is strong
and it does not signify that she is a leader who must be followed.

This is the same for domestic cats that live with people.
So, even if a cat thinks that the owner is of higher status,
she will not obey or follow the owner
as she would consider him merely as
a family member or colleague that lives together.
