3 keys to self love and acceptance (Good Will Hunting)

The 1997 film Good Will Hunting offers a fascinating glimpse into the healing power of selflove. Its message is especially relevant today, because in our society where selfcriticism and selfblame are normalized, many of us suffer from a lack of selfcompassion.

Over time, many of us end up internalizing unhealthy patterns until we don’t even notice them anymore, and our sense of selfworth becomes conditional. The unspoken assumption is that: “maybe after I’ve done all these things, I’ll finally deserve to be loved.”

The thing is, no one tells us how to build kind and trusting relationships with ourselves. The psychologist Dr. Kristin Neff is a pioneer in the area of SelfCompassion research. She developed the SelfCompassion Scales, wrote the book “SelfCompassion: the Proven Power of Being Kind to Yourself,” and is a cofounder of the nonprofit “Center for Mindful SelfCompassion.”
So how do we practice selfcompassion?

We’ll look at Dr. Neff’s 3 key elements of SelfCompassion in this video, and how you can use them to build a kinder relationship with yourself.
