The 2nd New York Cavalry monument we see today was their second attempt to place a monument on the Gettysburg battlefield. The first monument that was created was rejected by its members and a replacement made. Never one to miss an opportunity, the veterans of Gettysburg’s Corporal Skelly post #9 would purchase the discarded monument and erect it in front of their GAR building where it stands today.
