연등회
대한민국에서 매년 4월~5월 중에 진행하는 행사. 신라 경문왕 6년(866년)에 처음 시작하여 지금까지 1200년 가까이 이어오고 있는 오래된 전통 문화로, 국가무형문화재 제122호이자 유네스코 인류무형문화유산이다.
원래는 불교 행사였지만 이제는 종교, 성별, 국적과 관계 없이 모두 함께 하나가 되어 즐기는 축제로 자리잡았다. 비유적으로 표현하자면 미국 추수감사절 퍼레이드는 원래 개신교 행사로 시작하였으나 현재는 미국 최대 이벤트로 자리잡은 사례와 비슷하다.
