This is a Motormouth couple car review of the allnew 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe PHEV plugin hybrid SUV. This plugin has a 1.6L turbocharged 4cylinder engine with an electric motor, a 6speed automatic transmission and a combined 261 horsepower and 258 lbft of torque. It comes with standard AWD and has 50 km/30 miles of EV range. You can put regular fuel in this PHEV. The Santa Fe PHEV has a modern and elegant exterior design with a bold chrome grille and chrome trim on the windows and door handles. I would say it has a bit of a Palisade vibe to it. It comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, a spare tire, blind spot monitoring and rearcross traffic alert and forward collision avoidance assist. The panoramic sunroof and proximity activated tailgate is available on the top trim. Another available feature is Remote Smart Parking Assist, all you have to do is get out of your vehicle and maneuver it into and out of a parking spot using the key fob. Sounds interesting, I haven’t tried this yet. Fuel economy is impressive; it earns a combined city/highway rating of 3.1Le/100km, 76 MPGe. With the battery depleted it gets 7.1L/100km, 33 MPG city and 7.3L/100km, 32 MPG highway. I have been getting 5.1L/100km so far and have been driving it in Smart, Eco and Sport mode. This fuel economy is not quite as good as the Sorento PHEV at 2.9Le/100km, 79 MPGe. With a 120 volt Level 1 outlet, your charging time is 10.5 hours and with a 240 volt Level 2 outlet, it’s 3.4 hours. The Santa Fe PHEV comes with an impressive amount of standard features including an 8” touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, leather seating surfaces, heated front seats, a leather wrapped heated steering wheel and power driver and passenger seats. In the US, the heated steering wheel is only available on the top trim. For only an extra $3,500 CAD/$6,010 USD you can move up to the top Luxury/Limited trim to get features like ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a wireless charger, a 12.3” digital driver display, a panoramic sunroof and the proximity activated smart liftgate. In the US, you can get a 10.25” touchscreen on the top trim, but in Canada only the 8” is available.
