2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6
I bought the car with the previous owner claiming the engine was rebuilt a few thousand miles ago. The block is clean, as well as heads/valley cover (when I removed intake I took note), so I have no reason doubt him. The Melling MTC8 cam (I had no idea Melling made cams LOL), is a BABY cam (212/218 114LSA .522"/.529") meant for 4.8/5.3 equipped trucks with towing in mind, and can be slapped in without valve train changes. Since it is a towing cam, the power/torque range was pushed down low/mid range. The WS6 came with full TRUE DUAL exhaust, and a SLP lid, so it is otherwise stock to my knowledge drivetrain wise. It is important to note it was untuned, and ran terribly.
I had body work/paint done (slight damage hidden under an ugly wrap), added a Mishimoto catch can, dyno tune, fixed loose/missing bolts on rear end, added 17x11 OEM Trans Am wheels (lengthened barrel) with 315/35 wide Toyo Proxes R888R tires. Also done was new oil pressure sensor (for peace of mind, the old sensor was HAND TIGHT but did look relatively new), new intake gaskets (old were leaking and HAD RTV ON THEM WTF), new driver side window motor, new OEM WS6 emblem to replace faded aftermarket emblem, and much more minor improvements I'm probably forgetting.
Anyway, my plans for this one are a stroker, and/or supercharger, rear end, and to wrap or paint it red in memory of my father. I also will most likely change the wheels again, lower it, with a cage etc...
Enjoy the vid, this one was mainly for folks searching for what this cam sounds like or how it performs. LS6 intake, vacuum leaks, clogged (very dirty)K&N filter and MAF screen full of bugs, 241 heads, T56. It probably left 10hp/10tq on the table IMO. No excuses just stating some facts, I took this build over and just needed it tuned to drive, it will undoubtedly have a new power plant soon. Cheers!
S/O to Ivan at Southwest Speed in Rio Rancho, NM!!! Hell of a tuner and I'll be back for a retune when I change my setup!
