This is our extreme pantry makeover project. The cost for this project was not cheap at about $2000, but the results exceeded our expectations. A big portion of the cost is the prefinished cabinets from The Home Depot. These cabinets are more expensive than the unfinished versions, however, they save time and seem like much better quality. We always try to decide on projects that we think will add value to our home such as laundry cabinets, custom closets, and the pantry project. We were originally planning to stain the pantry counter top, however, after some testing we ended up painting it with dark gray acrylic paint. We designed this project around the concept of floating shelves with no visible supports that had to be strong. We added a LED recessed light in the ceiling, changed to light switch to motionactivated, and added LED motionactivated strip lights under the first shelf to illuminate the counter top.
