In 1983, Valerie Singleton took a look at the rivalry in the videocassette recorder (VCR) market in the UK where consumers have been labelled "the video addicts of the world".

The two main players were Sony's Betamax and JVC's VHS formats and, while on paper the Betamax was technically superior, in VHS they were up against a competitor with 70% of the market. Could the Betamovie camcorder change their fortunes?
