Try as they might, the WWE still can't convince us super smart marky mark wrestling fans that SummerSlam is on the same level as WrestleMania. Sure, it's proven to be a good testing ground for new concepts and sometimes delivered above and beyond expectations in terms of wrestling quality and overall entertainment, but it has never been the same end of the wrestling year, "write your name into history" level of event that the WWE have dubbed "the granddaddy of them all".
