Joao and Dindim, The Penguin

Penguins are very loyal creatures, and when they find a partner, they stay with them till the day they die. An amazing example of this loyalty is the story of Dindim and Joao. The Magellanic penguin was covered in oil and starving on a beach near the coast of Rio De Janeiro. When Joao found him in this condition all the way back in 2011, he took him in and took care of him till he could return to his home.

The surprising bit is that Dindim would visit him every year after that. The scientists were so shocked by this friendship that they tagged him to make sure it was even the same penguin that returned! Don’t worry, Dindim doesn’t send its duplicates to greet Joao. Penguins aren’t that smart. But they are emotionally intelligent enough to remember who their saviors are.

Salinda and Namal

Elephants have been a suffering species for a long time, some are hunted down for their horns while others are forced to work as circus animals. This poor fellow was found in the jungle by Salinda. When the elephant was found, he had a large wound on his hind leg and the doctors tried to save his leg, but it was too late. It had to be amputated, and now he has a neat prosthetic leg! Namal was never a social one, and that’s quite rare for elephants.

Salinda knew that if he left, Namal would be on his own, and that’s why he decided to say! Nadal's injury stops him from bonding with other elephants in the herd since they like to run and swim a lot. Unfortunately, Namal can’t do all of that. This gentle beast has had a hard life and even gets scared when he sees a mongoose and immediately looks for Salinda! Every day, they bathe together in the cold waters and he spends all his time with the elephant, just playing with him or sunbathing.
