Whether monochomatic or multicoloured, dartingly fast swimmers or slow dancers, big or tiny, fish entice the eye and the imagination. And sometimes, one or two just isn’t enough. You want to breed a tank full of them so you can share the joys of fish with your family and friends, (or maybe sell to a local pet and aquarium store). But where do you start?

There is no “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” book for fish. So how do you know which fish breed easily with each other and which ones produce a lot of babies? How do you know which breeds are just too timeconsuming and demanding for the beginner?

If you’re a beginner aquarist, don’t worry, there are a few breeds that can fall in love easily and make some pretty independent babies.
