Kamakura is a popular day trip destination from Tokyo. You can get there in about one hour from Tokyo city center directly by train. Especially if you are visiting only Tokyo during your travel to Japan, Kamakura is a good place to consider to feel the traditional side of Japanese culture.

There are two many places to see in one day, so I made an easy guide of Kamakura trip, that you can even leave Tokyo around noon.

Access to Kamakura:
You can access Kamakura by non reserved seat of JR Yokosuka Line (from Tokyo, Shinagawa)
You can also take JR Tokaido Line and change at Totsuka after Yokohama to JR Yokosuka Line.
or JR Shonan Shinjuku Line bound for Zushi (from Shinjuku, Shibuya)
*If your JR Pass is valid, you can use it.

Shrine: Tsurugaoka Hachimangu
Town Street: Komachi Dori
Fish Cake: Maruten
Train: Enoden
Beach: Shichiriga Hama

My Kamakura Route
Left Shinjuku (13:30) Kitakamakura Station (14:30) Meigetsuin Temple Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine (16:00) Komachi Dori Kamakura Station (Enoden) Kamakura Kokomae Station (17:30) Shichiriga Hama Beach and see the sunset

To add 2 temples in Hase and eat lunch, you can leave 23 hours earlier.
